When a new ticket office was designed for the expanding Cambridge Railway Station, an opportunity arose to transform its redundant historic ticket office into a site-specific pub full of charm and history. The design takes inspiration from the building’s grandeur and railway setting.

Accessible from both the station platform and the Station Square, visitors enter the pub’s  generous, high-ceilinged main space and are drawn towards a new bar which wraps through the length of the room. A large bar back-fitting celebrates the buildings existing features and emphasises the impressive ceiling height and large detailed cornice. A new kitchen is provided at ground floor level, and a new mezzanine level offers space for additional WCs

An existing window on the platform side of the pub is replaced by an inward-opening casement window to facilitate service to waiting passengers.

An external drinking and dining area along the whole length of frontage brings the corner of Station Square to life, adding to the overall redevelopment of Cambridge Railway Station.
