We were delighted to have the opportunity to restore and refurbish this stunning Grade II listed building, one of only a handful of private art deco houses in the country.

Our task was to transform the house into a comfortable family home suitable for modern life whilst retaining its beautiful original features and historic detailing such as curved and angled staircases, the sycamore and walnut panelling, macassar ebony skirtings, fluted limestone fireplaces and coved ceilings

Designed in 1934 by architects Wimperis, Simpson and Guthrie for a knighted consultant surgeon, the house is a concrete encased, steel-framed building cleverly arranged around a series of light wells. The arrangement affords natural light to every room despite the depth and height of the building. The ground and first floors are the most impressive, and where the public face of the house where the consulting and waiting rooms were originally located. Receptions rooms, bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms are located in the upper floors.

The house celebrates British craftsmanship and features the work of many of the leading designers of the day. All of the fitted furniture by Betty Joel has been carefully restored as have the surviving Waldo Maidland lights. A replica of the original Marion Dorn rug has been given pride of place in the entrance hall.
