Hanbury Hall has a rich and varied history. Built in 1719 as a French Huguenot church, it was subsequently occupied by churches of various denominations until 1887, when Christ Church, Spitalfields purchased the building for use as their church hall.
After long years of use the hall had closed and was badly in need of refurbishment and ideas to inspire its re-use

Mackenzie Wheeler generated the idea to convert the upper floors to residential use to fund the refurbishment of the hall on ground floors for community use.
Key interventions included significant glazed elements to create an open and welcoming entrance.

Hanbury Hall is now a popular and revitalized social space hosting a range of classes and workshops with a small café at the front of the building.
